Can exercise help with depression?
I’ve been depressed since the age of 14, (I’m 20 now) and have been on and off different medications without any positive results. Lately, I’ve been exercising more and have noticed a pretty substantial improvement with my depression. Could this be related to my increase in exercise? Just wondering. Thanks for your time.
Yes.
When you do vigorous exercise you body releases endorphins (particularly saratonin) into your system. This is what causes the “runner’s high” that many marathon runners talk about. Many doctors treating depression also recommend exercise in addition to any medication they might prescribe.
